The Drones (Off The Record) @ 'Aquarium Drunkard'
Over at 'Aquarium Drunkard' The Drones reflect on their city of residence (Melbourne in this case) and choose a handful of places they could not live without — be them bookstores, bars, restaurants or vistas.
"The Weather :: Though the summers get pretty warm, the other three seasons are more or less on the mild to freezing side, which means I get to rug up. I hate wearing shorts...
Joe’s Shoe Store :: This is my local bar. Everyone needs to have a local. Life is not complete without one. I can go into that place, not even open my mouth and still be served exactly what I was feeling like at the time. Also, the folks that run the place are as unruly as the unruliest of customers, so the mood is always right. One minute you’re talking to them about the middle-east crisis, the next you’re trying to talk them down off the bar and to put their clothes back on. How I miss it, when I’m away."
(One of my locals!)

REPOST - The Kid With The Replaceable Head
Photograph by David Shankbone
Here are 'The Kid With The Replaceable Head' and 'I'm your Man' by Richard Hell & the Voidoids as produced by Nick Lowe and released on Radar Records in 1979.
If anyone has a copy of the piece Richard Hell wrote on David Johansen for Lisa Robinson's 'Hit Parader' back in 1975/6 could they please get in touch with me.
It is almost Hell's manifesto about giving not 100 or 200% to rock'n'roll but 400%!
It was not reprinted in 'Hot & Cold'.

"Kind souls, who wish to remain anonymous rescued this material from a 1/4" reel of tape that was up for auction on eBay, advertised as something else, and it was only in the reel transfer that it was discovered what it actually contained. It's been theorized that if this is not the master reel itself from the studio mixdown sessions, it's at the very least a direct, professional copy of it. The band could release this today, as-is. So I am honored to present it here..."

We await the Vatican's response
"It documents a shameful catalogue of cruelty: neglect, physical, sexual and emotional abuse, perpetrated against children"
Cardinal Sean Brady
Leader of the Catholic Church in Ireland
On Ireland's 'Child Abuse Report'
(Yip - it sure does.)
Story at the 'BBC' here.
You can read the report here.
"The Christian Brothers, which ran several boys' institutions deemed to have harbored serial child molesters and sadists on their staff, insisted it had cooperated fully with the probe. The order successfully sued the commission in 2004 to keep the identities of all of its members, dead or alive, unnamed in the report. No real names, whether of victims or perpetrators, appear in the final document."

Fireball XL5 - Intro & credits
(Thanx to 'coisas do arco da velha')
A Sad Story:
When I was about 5 I got from Santa a Fireball XL5 rocket that you shot up into the air with a catapult and it would separate in two and float down to earth on parachutes.
At least that was what should have happened!
Xmas morning and I went up to the hills behind where I lived with my Dad and shot my rocket up into the air only to see one half of it parachute down a couple of hundred feet into the quarry, where of course we were not allowed to go.
One launch that was all I got (bugger!)
NB: Trivia fans - the closing song is performed by Don Spencer who is Russell Crowe's father-in-law!
('Feathers, Furs & Fins' eh kids?)

Shane's new teeth
Nice to see Mr. MacGowan with a new set of teeth and nice to see that they are already yellow! Pearly white just really wouldn't have looked right.
I remember a pre Pogue Shane in 1978 or so getting a new set of caps to go over his already tombstone like teeth then and they must have lasted a couple of months if that! And with his birthday being on Xmas day maybe this was the wish come true.
(Thanx to the 'hangover-helper' for pointing me in this direction)

Words by Tom McGrath (RIP)
Growing old
My jaws unfold
My face is wrinkled
Starting to crinkle
But we'll be bold
Before we're old
we'll show them what we're made of.
My jaws unfold
My face is wrinkled
Starting to crinkle
But we'll be bold
Before we're old
we'll show them what we're made of.
(From 'Laurel & hardy' 1976)
Chorus
Come walk beside me
Come take my hand and walk beside me
walk beside me till the gurgling stream
comes easing through the stones
rolling the pebbles all around and taking us down
into the further depths where coldness
laps in around our toes
splashes our ankles
but we have no regrets
we have no regrets
even though our feet are wet
Come walk beside me
Come take my hand and walk beside me
walk beside me till the gurgling stream
comes easing through the stones
rolling the pebbles all around and taking us down
into the further depths where coldness
laps in around our toes
splashes our ankles
but we have no regrets
we have no regrets
even though our feet are wet
(A homage to the aria of Bach's Goldberg variations 1999)
My sister in Glasgow attended Tom McGrath's funeral a couple of Fridays ago and very kindly sent me a copy of the Order of Service pamphlet.
The words above were printed on the back page.
Thanx WJN (with loveXXX)

WOW!
I have just discovered a couple of blogs both done by someone calling themself 'quantum retrocausality':
Identical Men From Parallel Universes
&
Circumambient Peripherisation
Identical Men From Parallel Universes
&
Circumambient Peripherisation
They are really something else indeed.
We obviously share an interest in some of the same subjects (Brion Gysin, On-U Sound and WSB immediately come to mind and I even have a post on Marshall McLuhan here) but believe me if these two blogs are at the top of the Premier League then mine is in the League One playoff final in comparison.
Updated information & help needed
Recently I put this album 'Russian Chants (Ambient Mix)' by Boris Feokistov & Bill Laswell up as my first post at my new(ish) blog and also put up some info that I found at 'Discogs'. However yesterday there was a comment left at the post from 'Anon':
"Info bout Feoktistov is not true. There are 2 diferent guys - one Russian folk player. Another, Russian orthodox composer and church regent Boris Feoktistov.
http://www.eipuser.ru/index.php?option=com_artistdirectory&task=singleArtist&id=2.
and this is link to original album
http://www.bogoslovy.ru/audio/feokt.htm."
So I am asking for help by someone who can speak Russian & English and who can perhaps help me out with a rough translation of the details at the above links as to be honest 'Babelfish' is not really helping.
NB: The second link will lead here and you can download what appear to be some of the original tracks from the album above before they have been remixed by Bill Laswell.
